Hair loss is a problem for everyone. The only solution for permanent hair loss is hair transplantation. Hair transplantation is an operation that can be done with more than one technique. FUE and DHI techniques are the most preferred among these techniques. So, what is the most suitable hair transplant technique for you? In order to better understand the difference between DHI and FUE techniques, it is necessary to learn how these techniques are applied first.
FUE Hair Transplant Technique
FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) hair transplantation consists of 3 stages.
1. Stage Hair Root Collection: The grafts in the donor area are collected one by one with special tools called micro motors. It is the name given to hair follicles that contain some tissue pieces in the graft. Grafts can contain 2, 3 or 4 hair follicles. If the collected hair follicles are kept at room temperature, they begin to die within 2 hours and 30 minutes. In order for the hair follicles not to die, they must be kept in special liquids.
2. Stage Opening Channels: Channels are opened so that the collected hair follicles can be transferred to balding areas. The channels opened should be opened in accordance with the natural direction and angle of the hair.
3. Stage Hair Follicles Transplantation: The collected hair follicles are transplanted one by one into the opened channels.
DHI Hair Transplant Technique
It is also called a variation of FUE technique for DHI (Direct Hair Implantation) technique. In this technique, the collection of grafts is performed in the same way as in the FUE technique. The DHI technique differs from the FUE technique at the stages of opening channels and transplanting hair follicles. These two stages are performed in a single step in the DHI technique. In this technique, a pen-shaped tool called Choi is used. With this tool, channels can be opened and hair follicles transplanted at the same time.
DHI vs FUE Hair Transplant
• Recovery in DHI hair transplantation technique is faster compared to the FUE technique.
• Bleeding in the DHI technique is much less than in the FUE technique. Therefore, DHI hair transplantation technique is recommended for patients with high risk of bleeding.
• In the operation performed with the FUE technique, a larger planting area can be treated. However, a more frequent transplant can be done with the DHI technique. Thus, the results of the operation will look more natural.
• Unshaved hair transplantation can be done with the DHI technique.
• In DHI hair transplantation, the waiting time of the hair follicles outside is minimum. With this technique, hair follicles can be transplanted without losing their vitality.
