Hair loss stage, “What is hair loss?” It can be addressed depending on the question and the growth (anagen) and resting (telogen) stages of the hair hair. Anagen phase lasts 3 years on average and telogen phase lasts 3 months on average. With the arrival of new anagen hair, the resting hair is shed in the telogen phase. Normally, 5 – 15% of the hair is in the telogen stage. The increase in the rate of hair in the telogen phase and the loss of these hair causes excessive hair loss that disturbs the person.
Hamilton-Norwood Scale
Hamilton-Norwood Scale is used to classify male pattern hair loss into stages. The Hamilton-Norwood scale is a scale used to determine the level of male pattern baldness for hair loss stages. According to this scale, baldness is expressed in degrees between I and VII.
What are the 7 stages of Hair Loss?
Stage 1
In general, the hairline is within clear limits. It is mixed with seasonal or stress-induced spills. For this reason, it is the stage where treatment methods are not used. Continuation of hair loss in young people carries the risk of hairline loss. Supportive treatments are recommended to avoid this.
Stage 2
It is the first stage of baldness. The frontal hairline has receded to the middle line without leaving an islet in the middle. It is seen as a regression of the hairline, temples on both sides leaving hairless or very little hair. This image includes minimal hair loss that can be considered baldness.
Stage 3
The frontal hairline regresses more clearly. However, the middle part of the head area also begins to open at this stage. This stage is the stage where hair loss is accepted by the patient.
Stage 4
As in the 3rd phase, the temple and the apex area have become more pronounced. At this stage, hair loss manifests itself in the form of obvious open areas. This stage is more common in the age group between 28 and 35.
Stage 5
The temple area and balding areas on the top are enlarged. The hairy strip between the two areas is almost non-existent or thinned out. Stage 5 is also called the critical stage. The transition from Stage 4 to Stage 5 happens very quickly. Usually, patients pass to the 5th stage without realizing it. At this stage, the openings are more pronounced, the hair structure is weaker and lifeless.
Stage 6
In the front region, a thin circle of hair is seen, and just behind it is a balding area with a clear opening. There are dilutions on the back and sides that are still hairy.
Stage 7
At this stage, the hair bridge has completely disappeared. The temples, anterior and vertex shedding are combined. There is no treatment option that can be given, including hair transplantation. This phase is the phase where the hair scale is completed.
How is Hair Loss Treated?
You have detected that you have hair loss. So how will you treat it? In male pattern hair loss, new hair cannot be replaced. Hair loss drugs etc. cannot be treated with. These treatments may slow down hair loss temporarily, but do not end. The best solution for male pattern hair loss is hair transplantation. In hair transplantation, the hair follicles collected from the patient’s own body are transferred to the balding areas.
